28-Feb-2021 The ScatSat-1 winds are unavailable since 28 February 2021 due to an instrument anomaly.
07-Jan-2020 ISRO has moved to data processing software version 1.1.4. This results in a change of 0.35 dB in the HH and VV backscatter values. The effects for the winds calibration are fully compensated in the OSI SAF processing and hence the wind characteristics are not changed.
25-Jun-2019 The ScatSat-1 winds have been unavailable from 21 May until 24 June 2019 due to an instrument anomaly. The instrument calibration has changed which may have a small impact on the wind characteristics.
14-May-2019 The ScatSat-1 winds have been interrupted and delayed between 24 April and 13 May.
07-Feb-2019 The ScatSat-1 winds have operational status now and are available on EUMETCast to all users.
18-Jan-2019 The wind products have been partly unavailable on EUMETCast on 18 January between 0:00 and 10:00 UTC.

At KNMI the backscatter products coming from the OSCAT scatterometer instrument on board the ScatSat-1 satellite are processed towards a 25 km product for the EUMETSAT OSI SAF. Details are described in the ScatSat-1 Wind Product User Manual.

The processing is done in near-real time. From the sensing time of the end of an input file, it takes approximately 2.5 hours to get the corresponding wind product ready at KNMI.

The last 22 hours of data are shown in two separate plots showing ascending and descending tracks, respectively. This is done to avoid overlap of data in the pictures. Note that also data from previous days can be displayed using the link on the right hand side. The overview plots show color coded wind speed measurements. If you click somewhere in the satellite track, a picture appears showing the scatterometer winds in more detail.

Access to products
This wind product is available in BUFR and NetCDF format. The BUFR data are disseminated through the EUMETCast system; for access please contact EUMETSAT. The products are also available on a password protected FTP server (products of the last three days only). Contact the KNMI OSI SAF team for access.

For a swift response management procedure, user requests on this scatterometer wind data product should be issued at the Ocean and Sea Ice SAF website.
