NWP SAF Wind Processing Software

Software

The wind processing software was developed in the context of the EUMETSAT Numerical Weather Prediction Satellite Application Facility (NWP SAF). Software was developed to process scatterometer data from ERS, ASCAT (AWDP), SeaWinds, OSCAT, HSCAT and RapidScat (PenWP), and CFOSAT Rotating Fan Beam (CWDP) scatterometers. The software is currently used (in parts) by several users, including KNMI. Its wind products are displayed on the web in near real time.

The SDP and OWDP packages are obsolete now and have been replaced by PenWP. Support is still provided for existing users.

Since 2017, wind processing packages are further developed within the Ocean and Sea Ice SAF, however they are still distributed through the NWP SAF website.

AWDP

The ASCAT Wind Data Processor, AWDP version 3, which is also capable of processing ERS scatterometer data, is obtainable through the software request form on the NWP SAF scatterometer pages. The documentation can be found here.

PenWP

The Pencil beam Wind Processor for Ku-band instruments, PenWP version 2, is obtainable through the software request form on the NWP SAF scatterometer pages. The documentation can be found here.

The CFOSAT Wind Data Processor for the Rotating Fan Beam scatterometer, CWDP version 0.9, is obtainable through the software request form on the NWP SAF scatterometer pages. The documentation can be found here.
